A native of Tallassee, Alabama, Michael A. Griggs received his undergraduate degree from Auburn University at Montgomery in 1991.  He received his Juris Doctor Degree from Jones School of Law in December of 2000 and was admitted to the Alabama State Bar in September of the following year.  He accepted a position with the Montgomery County District Court as a judicial law clerk from March of 2002 to April of 2003.  He joined the firm of Chambless, Math & Carr, P.C.  in April of 2003 as an associate concentrating in collections, landlord/tenant matters, consumer and commercial litigation and bankruptcy law.

Mr. Griggs left Chambless, Math & Carr, P.C. and formed his own law firm in November of 2009.  In October of 2010, Mr. Griggs became a partner in the firm of Scarborough & Griggs, L.L.C. where he practices law in Tallassee with his partner Joseph T. Scarborough Jr.  Mr. Griggs is a life-long resident of the City of Tallassee.  He is married to Kipp Butler Griggs, and they have two children, Katherine and Drew.  Mr. Griggs is a member of Tallassee First Assembly of God where he and his family serve faithfully.

Joe was born and raised on a dairy farm in Perry County, Alabama; graduated from Francis Marion High School in Marion, Alabama in 1967; attended Auburn University, earning his Bachelor’s in Science degree in Vocational & Adult Education, Master’s in Education and his AA Certification from Auburn University in Secondary Education in 1976.

Joe taught Agribusiness at Tallassee High School from 1973-1995. During his teaching career, from 1979-1982, he earned his Juris Doctor by attending Jones Law School at night and was admitted to the Alabama State Bar on April 27, 1982. Joe began practicing law immediately after passing the Bar, while continuing to teach, by maintaining office hours in the late afternoon and evening hours.

Joe and his wife, Tina, reside in Tallassee and are active in numerous community organizations and their church, First United Methodist Church.
